Join Sweet Elevation

We're a small, but structured, growing bakery in Latham — and we're looking for someone serious about their craft to grow with us.

the role

Cake Decorator

We're looking for a highly qualified, experienced cake decorator to join Sweet Elevation Bakery. Custom cakes are the heart of what we do — weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and everything in between — and the right person will bring real skill, real ownership, and the ability to work fast and clean in a team kitchen.

You'll be working directly alongside Jennifer (Owner & Executive Pastry Chef) on a mix of custom orders, walk-in requests, and event work. This is not an entry-level role. We need someone with serious time in the field who can step in and produce quality work from day one.

Before you apply: look at our work. Browse our Portfolio and our Facebook albums. If our style is something you could already replicate — or get there with a little training — we want to hear from you. If our work feels out of reach, this isn't the right fit.

What you'll do

  • Decorate custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other events — both walk-in orders and pre-booked specials.
  • Stack, ice, and finish cakes smoothly and evenly to a high standard, especially in buttercream.
  • Produce detailed fondant work — sculpting, draping, hand-cut decorations, and fully covered tiered cakes.
  • Work fast in a team kitchen — meeting tight production timelines without sacrificing quality.
  • Take ownership of decorating projects from concept through final presentation.
  • Support general bakery operations where needed — baking assistance, prep, and maintaining a clean station.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of cake decorating experience in fast-paced, professional bakery environment(s). Schooling, internships, and home decorating do not count.
  • A portfolio of your work — Instagram, website, or photos we can review without logging in.
  • Proven buttercream skills — you can stack and ice a cake smoothly and evenly without supervision.
  • Strong fondant skills — we produce highly decorated cakes that require fondant fluency.
  • Available Fridays & Saturdays — non-negotiable. We're closed Sundays and Mondays.
  • Reliable, punctual, serious about your craft. Show your intention to stay during your 30-day evaluation. We invest in people who plan to stick around.
  • Capital Region local — this is an in-person role at our Latham shop.
what's next

And some room to grow

Sweet Elevation is growing. We're launching Bake Club, expanding into nationwide shipped goods, and building toward something bigger than a single-storefront bakery.

This role may start out as a Cake Decorator — but the right person can grow into a leadership position as we expand. If you're someone who wants to build a career, not just clock in for a shift, that opportunity is here.

Apply now

Before you fill this out: review our Portfolio and Facebook albums. If our style isn't something you can match (or grow into quickly with training), this isn't the right fit. If it is — we want to hear from you.

This is a hard requirement. We're closed Sundays & Mondays.
List the bakeries or shops where you've decorated. Include city, role, job duties, and roughly how long you were there.
Instagram, website, Pinterest, or any link where we can see your work. If your work isn't online, let us know.
Buttercream florals? Sculpted/3D? Fondant work? Wedding tiers? Be specific — we want to know your style.

We read every application personally. If you're a strong fit, we'll be in touch within a week. If you do not hear from us within that time, please consider that we’ve decided to move forward with other candidates at this time.
